
Meet my little Pumpkin Duck!
This is a fun and easy knitting project — perfect for beginners and Halloween season.
The pattern is free, so grab your yarn and let’s knit together! I hope you enjoy knitting it as much as I did!
MATERIALS
- A pair of 2mm knitting needles (straight or circular) - Susan’s Family Alpaca and Susan Shetland yarns - Toy stuffing (less than 100g) - Sewing needle + Scissors + Sewing pins

The finished toy is 15cm tall
KNITTING PATTERN
Pumpkin and Duck Body (Make 1)
Start knitting from the bottom of the pumpkin:
Cast on 10 stitches with orange yarn (Leave a long tail for sewing). Row 1: K1, KFB x8, K1 (18 sts) Row 2: P Row 3: KFB x18 (36 sts) Row 4: P Row 5: K1, KFB x 34, K1 (70 sts) Row 6: (K2, P1) x23, K1 (70 sts) Row 7: (K2, P1) x23, K1 (70 sts) Row 8 – Row 37: Repeat Row 6 – Row 7 Row 38: P1, (K1, P2tog) x23 (47 sts) Row 39: K1, (K2tog, K3) x9, K1 (38 sts)
Cut the orange yarn, continue knitting with white yarn. Row 40: K1, (K2tog, K4) x6, K1 (32 sts) Row 41: P Row 42 – Row 47: St st Row 48: K1, (K2tog, K3) x6, K1 (26 sts) Row 49 – Row 73: St st Row 74: K1, (K2tog, K2) x6, K1 (20 sts) Row 75: P Row 76: K1, (K2tog, K1) x6, K1 (14 sts) Row 77: P Row 78: K2tog x7 (7 sts) Leave a long tail for sewing, cut the yarn, thread the tail through the last stitch and pull tight.
Wings (Make 2)
Cast on 16 stitches with white yarn (Leave a long tail for sewing). Row 1: K (16 sts) Row 2: P Row 3 – Row 8: St st Row 9: K6, SSK, K2tog, K6 (14 sts) Row 10: P Row 11: K5, SSK, K2tog, K5 (12 sts) Row 12: P Row 13: K2tog x6 (6 sts) Leave a long tail for sewing, cut the yarn, thread the tail through the last stitch and pull tight.
Legs (Make 2)
Cast on 16 stitches with yellow yarn (Leave a long tail for sewing). Row 1: K (16 sts) Row 2: P Row 3: K1, SSK, K3, SSK, K2tog, K3, K2tog, K1 (12 sts) Row 4 – Row 6: St st Row 7: K1, SSK, K1, SSK, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1 (8 sts) Row 8: P Cut the yellow yarn, continue knitting with white yarn. Row 9: K Row 10 – Row 12: St st Row 13: Cast off Leave a long tail for sewing, cut the yarn, thread the tail through the last stitch and pull tight.
Pumpkin hat (Make 1)
Cast on 26 stitches with orange yarn (Leave a long tail for sewing). Row 1: P Row 2: K1, (K2tog, K2) x6, K1 (20 sts) Row 3: P1, (P1, P2tog) x6, P1 (14 sts) Row 4: K1, k2tog x6, K1 (8 sts) Row 5: P Cut the orange yarn, continue knitting with green yarn. Row 6: K Row 7: (K1, P1) x4 (8 sts) Row 8: (K1, P1) x4 (8 sts) Row 9 – Row 14: Repeat Row 7 – Row 8 three times. Row 15: (K1, P1) x4 (8 sts) Row 16: K2tog x4 (4 sts) Leave a long tail for sewing, cut the yarn, thread the tail through the last stitch and pull tight.
SEWING AND DECORATING
We will sew and decorate the Pumpkin Duck as shown in this video, using the Mattress Stitch and Whip Stitch.
